The Procedure

The Procedure

Neuflo® is an innovative non-surgical, heat-free treatment for enlarged prostate problems. The procedure can be done quickly and easily in the doctor’s office. It is painless, has no side-effects and treats the underlying cause of the symptoms.

The procedure is painless, but a mild oral sedative is recommended to help with patient anxiety. The feasibility study found no nerve block or analgesic was necessary beyond a topical lidocaine gel. However, antibiotics should be given to guard against the risk of post-procedure infection.

To prepare for the Neuflo® procedure, the urethra is flushed out with a lidocaine gel solution. The catheter is then guided to the bladder, and the balloon at its tip is inflated to secure the position of the catheter. A trans-rectal ultrasound is recommended to ensure the balloon is fully inflated and securely seated in the bladder neck. The small acupuncture needles threaded through the catheter are then gently extended. Lastly, they are attached to the DC control unit at the other end. Preparation takes around 15 minutes.

The procedure itself involves the physician or practice nurse pressing a button on the control unit’s touch-screen to deliver the very low voltage DC current, which can be precisely directed and the dose carefully controlled. The catheter shouldn’t need repositioning and the treatment takes less than 30 minutes – usually around 20 minutes.

Because the procedure is so mild, any inflammation reaction of our body is minimal. This results in rapid healing and no scarring. And adjacent tissue, nerves and blood vessels remain unaffected. When the treatment session is finished, the catheter is disconnected from the control unit, the acupuncture needles retracted and the catheter gently removed.
